In fasciata plants deficient in CAF-1, derepression of a silent GUS transgene was observed. Stomata in leaves are formed by a series of asymmetric and symmetric division. Only one of the guard cells expressing GUS (blue-stained) was observed, suggesting asymmetric de-repression during the last symmetric cell division of guard mother cell.
